The Gift of Time

Hi, friends. It has been longer than I would like since my last blog post. I have a few in the works but I like to make sure I'm publishing a blog worth reading. Time has been slipping through my fingers lately. I'm distracted, busy, tired, and fatigued. There is a familiarity to this overwhelming way of going about my days which bothers me.

I've been noticing that the topic of idols has come up a few times, which is worth acknowledging. It causes me to wonder if, not if, but what am I making an idol in my life.

We put our house on the market 2 days ago and it has been a whirlwind of cleaning, hiding the clutter, and showings. About a week ago was when we finally decided to do this again. The market may be ready now and we sure are. We don't know where we will go once it sells but I am not worried about that.

However, I am extremely concerned with not scaring off potential buyers and I'm being incredibly accommodating. If you have ever tried to sell a house while living in it with 2 young children you may know my challenges. If its been awhile for you to experience the smell of diapers, the toys, the inability to get out the door in less than an hour, and keeping a house clean, let me say that it is exhausting on a normal day but now there is this extra pressure.

Trying to please everyone is hard. Answering calls with kids screaming is not exactly productive. I'm not trying to complain. I'm actually feeling quite positive considering. This will not be forever, maybe we'll get lucky and get an offer quick. But in the meantime, how I spend my time matters.

Luckily, I have found these pockets of time to do my daily devotions and be still but I feel like I am not connecting with my Heavenly Father. I've been serving in church and starting to sense that I'm so preoccupied with what I need to do that I miss an opportunity to love on someone that I should have. I see the light though and am hopeful that I can slow myself down enough to fully experience my Father and what He is showing me.

Is busyness an idol? Are my kids? Serving? Time to get focused on God's Word and slow down enough to listen for His direction.

Thanks for spending some of your very valuable time with me. I pray you enjoy some time in the Word of God, which will always be true.

Hi Dad, Thank you for your constant love. Thank you that I am feeling so positive in the craziness of selling a house with young kids. Help me recognize when You are speaking to me so that I stop and pay attention. I don't want to go through the motions in serving You. I want to have a healthy attitude and gracious heart. Thank you for those that read this blog and guide them to your will for them as well. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Even after a year I still need to be cautious about getting too caught up in how many followers or likes there are on this blog. My uncle is a missionary in Puerto Rico and has been for over 40 years. He was in town on furlough Christmas of 2016 and I was privileged to hear him speak. He mentioned how people that follow the mission may get concerned with how big or small the number of people there are in the PR congregation. My uncle said, "its not in the numbers". Absolutely! It is too easy to get drawn into the statistics of how to get more likes and more reach on Facebook specifically. It's not about that. It's about God's love.

God's love is more than a Bible verse post on a cool image. It is so much MORE!!! Look outside and see the undeniable work of our most amazing Father. See the way He reveals himself in our children's smiles.

For awhile it seemed that every time I heard a crash or boom from the kids,…

A Fresh Coat of Paint

This weekend when the kids were at their dad's, I touched up the paint around the house. It was awesome of the landlord to leave some in the place so it matches perfectly. After a year and a half of living here, there are some areas of the walls that have crayon, marker, stickers that peeled the paint, and other typical wear and tear of living in a house with young kids. At first it may not seem like that big of a deal to touch up paint, but wow did it give me a boost in my outlook.

A bonus blessing of the weekend was that I was able to go on a walk and enjoy a little sunshine. While I was out, the paint was able to dry. When I got home, it was like I walked into a new atmosphere. The place felt refreshed. I could walk up the stairwell and feel like it was so much cleaner and the energy was renewed. It was and still is amazing a day later. I know it won't always be this "clean" feeling but for now I'm savoring it.

This morning while preparing to watch church onli…

The Picture

Do you remember that moment you took that first picture of you and your significant other, before it was official? Do you remember the feeling? Take a look at that photo, either physically or in your mind, what feelings does it invoke? Depending on your current situation that answer may vary significantly.

Isn't that just like life though, people change. Our ideas of a person are based on the first impression usually. We build up a fantasy of what life could be like with them. But we all change and often so do our opinions and even possibly how we remember someone or how we remember details of our relationship with them.

Seeing a picture of what once seemed like an ideal relationship that has since broken apart is hard on a soul. It doesn't matter if it is your own picture or of someone else.  In the image you can see the light in a person's eyes, the excitement of not noticing the other's flaws. But once you know that it has been ruined by human nature and sin, it hurts…
